Issyk Mounds

We will pass through the city of Issyk where we found a golden man – Scythian prince in archaeological excavations.

In 1969, a group of Kazakhstani scientists led by Kemal Akishevich Akishev in the Issyk Kurgan discovered a "Golden Man" (Altyn Adam) – Yong Scythian prince at 18 y.o . After the demolition of the embankment, two burials were found at a depth of 1.2 meters from the level of the ancient horizon: central and lateral (southern). Central was repeatedly robbed. The lateral grave was not disturbed, the buried inventory was preserved completely. The burial chamber was built of processed logs of spruce. In the burial chamber, over 4,000 gold objects, an iron sword and a dagger, a bronze mirror, clay, metal and wooden vessels were found.

Now Golden man is located in Astana – National museum of gold and national symbol of KZ.

Turgen Gorge, Assy Plateau

Turgen gorge is located 80km to the east from Almaty: being 45 km long in total, it starts near Turgen village and ends at a foot of Assy pass.

Assy Plateau, where sheep graze and jeeps race.

The plateau is located at heights of 2800-3200 meters. Since ancient times, it is being used as pasture. Scientists found remains of ancient humans, who lived here more than 5000 years ago.

Even though this plateau is hardly accessible, it is always populated. Hundreds and thousands years ago, it was used as a passage for caravans from Europe to India and China. Nowadays it is used as a home-place for observatory.

Part of the silk road passed through this plateau, in this place there were settlements, Saks and Turks, this area is often explored by archaeologists, there are many burial places here - mounds of saxie and the Türks. The Turks tried to bury it where the accumulations of the Saka burial mounds, believing that this place is a short and bright place.

On the way along the plateau of Assy, we will meet petroglyphs 15 century BC.

Bartogai Lake

Bartogai Lake is a reservoir in the Almaty Region of Kazakhstan. As it is far away from any pollution sources, it has remained relatively pristine. It was built in the early 1980s on the Chilik River at the base of the Sogety Plateau (Syugaty Hills) as part of an irrigation project. The dam was completed in 1983 and the site became operational in 1985. It collects water during the winter and spring and releases water for irrigation from June through September.

Recreational fishing in the lake and in the outlet stream is permitted at certain times of year.Animals in the area include marmots.
