Long Bien market

The tour lasts approximately 4 hours, with actual timings depending on the booking.

We pick you up from your hotel by your choice of taxi or motorbike and take you to the tour start-point.

The tour begins on historic Long Bien Bridge, Yen Phu Street. After introductions, and a brief look at the story behind the bridge, there is an overview of camera settings. We then head up to Long Bien Bridge to shoot the Establishing picture

Time now to move into Long Bien market, Hanoi’s biggest wet market, to learn how to shoot Relationship pictures. Our focus is on how to take naturalistic photos of people at work and play. We’ll have a traditional Vietnamese green tea from a street stall before moving on.

Hanoi Old Quarter

In Dong Xuan market, we continue with Relationship pictures. The market was originally built by the French in 1889, although it has undergone several renovations. The emphasis here is on architecture and scene.

Now we head into the Old Quarter streets, especially Hang Thiec and Thuoc Bac streets. Traditionally, each of Hanoi’s 36 streets specialized in certain goods – ‘hang’ means ‘goods’. On most of these streets you can still guess the main commodities right away. Our focus here is on street photography and portraiture: we learn how to approach and interact with people for quality portraits.

We move on to explore Hang Vai, Phung Hung and the railway tracks. In this part of town, people live right alongside the railway, and we have a chance to look closely at their unique way of life. Our photographic focus is on composition of photos and storytelling.

We end the tour at Café Zoom, 46 Hang Vai Street, for a light street food meal and traditional Vietnamese coffee, followed by the final workshop on our pictures and feedback. Then we will drop you back off at your hotel by your choice of taxi or motorbike.

Thầy Pagoda locates at the foot of Sài Sơn mountain, southwest of Hanoi. The pagoda is 20 kilometers far from the center of city, yet you can get there by motorbike in approximately 40 minutes. This a famous Buddhist pagoda is more than 8 centuries years old. The Pagoda is associated with Từ Đạo Hạnh 徐道行, a special Zen master of Vietnam who lived in Lý Dynasty. His reputation became a legend in memories of people of that land because of romantic anecdotes about his great magic and kindness. He had travel from lands to lands to help people without asking for return. Finally, when he is on the verge of death, Từ Đạo Hạnh went to Sài Sơn mountain (its colloquial name is Thầy mountain), and built a small pagoda named Hương Hải (it was changed into "Thầy" pagoda latter on). He died here in 1116, and accidentally in that year, King Lý Thần Tông was born. The myth that King Thần Tông was the afterlife of Từ Đạo Hạnh has been rumored from this event. However,Thầy Pagoda is not only attractive by these legends, but also charming for its ancient structures. Coming to this landscape, you will be stunned by the perfect harmony of the surrounding geography and Vietnamese traditional architecture. Visting Thầy pagoda, you will be enlightened by the beliefs of Vietnamese, people worship Buddha, God, Mother Goddess and Saint. Thầy pagoda is also famous for its mysterious limestone caves, the ancientest water puppet art of Vietnam, and enjoy a specialty of Thầy Pagoda : chè-lam cake.
