Day 1: Saigon – Tien Giang – Sadec (L/D) (40 km)
Leave Saigon for the Mekong Delta in the morning: take a two hour drive on the freeway to Tieng Giang province. Start biking on beautiful country roads along natural creeks; pedal slowly through rice fields and pass many waterway markets.
Stop for coffee at a little town and visit a village, then cross a network of canals to Xeo Quyt Base, a former Viet Cong base with a small tunnel system. Xeo Quyt also was the headquarters of the V.C. in Dong Thap province during the American-Vietnam war from 1963-1975. A Viet Cong guide will take you to Xeo Quyt base by row boat.
Here, a Viet Cong guide will explain the difficulties faced by V.C. living and fighting in this setting. Back to the base for lunch. After lunch, we cycle to Sadec town. Overnight in Sadec.
Day 2: Sadec – CanTho.( B/L/D) (50-75 km)
Wake up in early morning, take a walk to Sadec market nearby, and see how the locals prepare an early morning market in town.
Visit some traditional French villas, built by the French along the canals. Explore the town of Sadec. Sadec town is the only town could remain Indochina history in Saigon Gia Dinh. The town also was the place where Madam Magueret, “Magueret Duras” made famous in a movie about her love with a Chinese man before 1932.
Check out of the hotel, start to ride through ornamentals, flower gardens, pass by workshops, and see locals producing rice powder. Lunch en route. In the afternoon, continue to cycle by sweet potato plantations and rice fields to Can Tho. Overnight in the capital city of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta.
Day 3: Can Tho – Saigon. (B/L/) (30 km)
Enjoy a boat ride to the Cai Rang floating market, the biggest and busiest of all floating markets in the Mekong region. Spend 30 minutes watching heavy traffic on the water as locals exchange goods from boat to boat.
Then disembark and visit another land market. Start riding on back roads to O Mon. ride through rural villages and cross a network of canals. Have lunch and transfer back to Saigon. End of tour.
