Lao Cai, Sa Pa, Ban Ho

Day 1: Hanoi – Lao Cai

Hotel pick-up by taxi at 8pm. We take the overnight train to Lao Cai from Hanoi.

Day 2: Lao Cai – Sa Pa – Ban Ho

Our minibus takes us up into the hills to Sapa, where we explore the town for the morning before heading down to our homestay at Ban Ho village for lunch. Our photographic focus for today is on basic setting and composition. We have a trek in the paddies surrounding Ban Ho, followed by time for relaxation next to a mountain waterfall. Dinner and overnight at Tay minority homestay.

Ban Ho, O Quy Ho, Mu Cang Chai, Nghia Lo, Ban Doi

Day 3: Ban Ho – O Quy Ho – Mu Cang Chai

We head out for the spectacular journey to Mu Cang Chai, via the O Quy Ho pass. Today we will be looking in particular at landscape photography. The road takes us through Lai Chau province, home to many remote villages of H’mong, Dzao and Lo Lo people. We arrive in Mu Cang Chai in early afternoon, and we have time for a walk in the hills near our homestay. Overnight at White Thai minority homestay.

Day 4: Mu Cang Chai – Nghia Lo – Ban Doi

Mu Cang Chai is one of Vietnam’s most stunning regions, famous for its step rice terrace valleys. We’ll spend some time in the morning exploring the best of these, and our encounter with the local H’mong people gives us a chance to work on our portraiture skills. En route to Ban Doi, we’ll follow the Da River, offering an insight into the lives on the fisherman living in this area. Overnight at our Black Thai minority homestay.

Ban Doi, Moc Chau, Ha Noi

Day 5: Ban Doi

We will spend a day at our homestay in tranquil Ban Doi village. In the morning we have a chance to explore the surrounding area, northern Vietnam’s richest agriculture region. Moc Chau is renowned for its tea, milk, fruit and honey, and we will have a close look at the lives of people producing these goods. After lunch, we relax at the homestay and work on our 7 pictures stories documenting the trip.

Overnight at the homestay.

Day 6: Ban Doi – Moc Chau – Hanoi

After breakfast, we will present our 7 pictures stories and review photographic lessons learned during the trip. We hit the road back to Hanoi before lunch, enjoying spectacular moutain scenery along the highway to Hoa Binh. We return to Hanoi at around 5pm, with drop-off at your hotel.
