As a student of Anthropology and Linguistics, I adore all things culture and communication. I am just as eager to share my favorite cultural and educational spots around DC as I am to learn from those I guide! My tours are generally driven by beautiful views and attractions that spark conversation. Let's get to know each other as we get to know DC.

Art Journey Through DC

During our journey we will discover cultural artwork of the United States of America as depicted by the District of Columbia and create our own works of art. We'll explore US art-forms created through nature, music, journalism, architecture, literature, and the performing arts. But what may be most exciting is the personalized work of art each member of the tour will quickly cultivate throughout the journey. I, a self-taught abstract artist, will guide you through my creative process of layered abstract painting as we drift and gain inspiration down the streets of DC.

This tour also includes a quick picnic with live--and possibly interactive--music. We will be strolling by many fascinating museums, restaurants, and shops. Everyone is welcome to part-take in such attractions after the 3-hour tour. However, all attractions built into our tour time are completely free of charge.

United States Botanic Garden

This is not your average garden. Inside there is vegetation from around the world. It is all organized and labeled. Some days there are special events where certain rooms have presenters and guided activities. Outside, there are amazing sculptures great for incorporating into our paintings.

The Newseum: Today's Front Pages

This attraction not only changes every day, it gives a broad view of perspectives around the country and some other parts of the globe. One can be truly humbled while reading. It is also thoroughly educational on many levels which I think should always be the driving force behind any journey. Any story, caption, or image could inspire the next layer of our abstract pieces.

Disctrict Architecture Center

This location is currently a mystery. During my photo-shoot, they were actually experiencing an exhibit change. Thus, there was little to capture. However, the DAC strives to "advocate for architecture and the built environment, inspire design excellence and educate both professional architects and the public". Inspiration from this location may offer a nice contrasting layer to the first layer of our painting which will have been crafted at the Botanic Garden.

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library

This library lends all DC inhabitants, enthusiasts, and tourists to remember and internalize the District's black, African American, history. There is no denying that MLK Jr. is well known around the world. However, there are many things that each one of us should take time to learn and talk about concerning Black history. Thus, I include this location with a few read excerpts to inspire the AA heritage of DC and encourage everyone to respect and remember it. Sometimes emotions or heritage inspire art more than anything. The layers of our paintings associated with this location will push us to put feeling and/or tradition on canvas.

E Street Cinema

Hollywood is a huge component of US art history. And movies in general have a penchant for capturing culture so beautifully and holistically. The E Street Cinema offers a simply swanky place to enjoy theater. Films shared here are often outside of the mainstream, and any film festival goers will appreciate the visit for future knowledge. This is where we conclude the journey and add the last finishing touches to our paintings. From here everyone is free to catch a movie, visit the gift shop around the corner, or continue painting with me for a small fee.
