I'm a former television news reporter and producer who writes about monuments, museums and historical sites for fun! I can tell you exactly where to go, how to do it on a budget and how to tailor your trip for the best vacation ever. Here's a secret: I can even make a stay-cation look like a luxury adventure on a dime.

DC TV and Film's Travelin' Adventure

Washington D.C. is arguably the nexus of power for the entire world.  Decisions made in the nation's capital radiate around the world and this is the stuff movies are made of.  Now, its notoriously difficult for filmmakers to make movies here but they do it.  You might even remember some of the famous sites in Washington, D.C. as the settings for some of your favorite movies. In DC Film and TV's Travelin' Adventures I show you the sites that appeared in films so you can see them close up, enjoy the history behind the locations and experience just what the film directors did when they chose these sites to be in their television and film masterpieces.

The Washington Monument

The Washington Monument (backdrop for several films including National Treasure 2004,2007 with Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha and Jon Voight,) can be seen from many vantage points around the city and is one of the most recognizable masonry structures in the world.  Conceived and built to honor Revolutionary War hero and first president George Washington, The Washington Monument has appeared in several television and film productions including Scandal, Independence Day, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Get Smart, Salt, and documentary filming of the 1963 March on Washington for Job's and Freedom.

Located on the National Mall, its formidable reflection visible in the Reflecting Pool, the towering obelisk draws more than a million visitors annually. Created from 36,0000 masonry blocks towering 555 feet 5⅛ inches in height and weighing nearly 100,000 tons, the Monument's construction was a nearly impossible undertaking which spanned four decades.

Ben's Chili Bowl Famous Movie Shoot Location

Famous and powerful politicians, celebrities, ordinary and extraordinary locals all stand in long lines to score a bite to eat at the historic landmark Ben's Chili Bowl located at 1213 U street in the U street corridor of Washington D.C.  Many films have been shot at this local including The Pelican Brief, Breakfast at Ben's, documentaries and news productions.  Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and GeorgeW. Bush were all customers

Kennedy Center's Live Productions
