This will be one of the coolest things you can do while in Hoi An! Build your own bamboo bike almost from scratch with the mentorship of a master bike maker right in the middle of a Nipa palm forest where the quaint workshop is. This experience spans over a week, and you wil spend 7-8 hours each day at the workshop crafting little details of your own bike. Tough work definitely, but when you see the final product emerge, you'll appreciate every single part of it, painstakingly crafted with your sweat and toil. Your teacher will always be on hand to assist with the finer details of the bike but you're free to customize and work on it as much as you want.
This tour will bring you onto a local vegetable farm where you will be learning from a local farmer how vegetables and various crops are produced in Tra Que, just a short drive from the centre of Hoi An. Famous Tra Que vegetables have its own following, with people claiming it is sweeter than anywhere else's.

After almost 10 years of trial and error and extensive research that involved him traveling to many parts of Asia, he eventually landed on a process that produced the best paper one could extract from Bamboo.

Street food is culture deeply rooted in the cities of Vietnam, so much so that you will find many families cooking their home-meals on the sidewalk while their motocycles are conveniently parked in their living rooms. :) It wouldn't be stretch to say that Hanoi is the street food capital of the world - anything from egg coffee (yes, the Vietnamese have put egg in coffee and made it work!), Pho Beef noodles), Bun Cha (grilled pork patties with noodles), Nem (spring rolls), Ban Xeo (Vietnamese Pancakes) to name a few.
A tradition that dates back several centuries, the making of paper masks are mostly associated with the various festivals in Vietnam. Although not many children in the cities today are exposed to paper masks, T te tradition of wearing paper masks is a cherished and endeared tradition among the locals in the countryside. Entirely handmade and always lingering with the faint smell of paper and glue, the locals love the simplicity of this craft. Note: The paper masks that you create will take a day or two to dry under the sun depending on the weather. While you will learn how to make one, the masks that you will eventually paint on and take home with you will be a ready made handmade mask that has already been dried. So what of your mask? Think about it, some child in Hanoi will wear your mask when it is eventually sold in the market.
If there's one thing that matches the abundance of scooters and motobikes in Vietnam, it would probably be the Non La (conical hat), the icon of Vietnam. Recognizable at one glance, the conical shape of the hat has been in use for centuries, from farmers to laborers to ordinary men and women who use it for the utilitarian purpose it serves - protection from either rain or shine.The non-la is also the souvenir of choice for most travellers when returning back to their home country from Vietnam, but why buy it if you can learn to make one yourself from a local? Here's your chance to build your own conical hat and in the process support the countless women who still make non-la by preserving this ancient heritage of Vietnam. Note: Normally original Vietnamese conical hat has 16 rounds, however, it takes very long for a beginner to make it, so at our workshop, we will make a smaller version of 14 rounds or less.
