Almaty (Kazakh: Алматы) formerly known as Alma-Ata and Verny, is the largest city in Kazakhstan, with a population of 1,703,481 people, containing 9% of the country's total population. It served as capital of the Kazakh state in its various forms from 1929 to 1997, under the influence of the then Soviet Union and its appointees. Alma-Ata was the host city for a 1978 international conference on Primary Health Care where the Alma Ata Declaration was adopted, marking a paradigm shift in global public health. Kok Zhailau is one of the most beautiful places on the territory of the Ile-Alatau National Natural Park. "Kөk Jailau" in translation from the Kazakh language means Green pasture. Thus, the name of the place cannot be better described, in spring and summer on the Kok Zhaylau plateau, the abundance of greenery amazes imagination. This plateau under the peak of Kumbel with a view of Almaty. Charyn Canyon The Charyn Canyon is a natural monument, built of sedimentary rocks, the age of which is about 12 million years. The height of the sheer mountains of the canyon reaches 150-300 m. The most interesting place for tourists is the Valley of Castles. Many tourists compare this place with the American Grand Canyon. Lake Kaindy A fabulous pond is located in one of the gorges of Kungei Alatau in Almaty region - from the brightly turquoise lake rise Tien Shan firs. This lake was formed as a result of the earthquake in January 1911. In addition to ordinary tourists who want to enjoy local beauties, divers come to the lake. Underwater excursion in crystal clear water has not left anyone indifferent. Kolsai Lakes Kolsai lakes are called the pearl of the Northern Tien Shan, they are very deep - the deepest place is 80 meters. Around - a coniferous forest belt, smoothly passing into high alpine meadows. Here you can easily find a snow leopard, a bear or a lynx. This is a great place for camping, fishing, boating and horse riding.
